The line graph shows population trends in Viet Nam from 1960 to 2020. Overall, the urban population increased steadily, while the rural population experienced a gradual decline after a period of growth.
In 1960, most Vietnamese people lived in rural areas, with the rural population much higher than the urban population. From 1960 to 1980, the rural population continued to grow, reaching its peak around 1980. From 1990 onwards, it began to fall slowly, showing a clear downward trend until 2020.
By contrast, the urban population rose throughout the same period. In 1960, the number of urban residents was relatively small. By 1980, it had increased noticeably, and from 1990, the urban population grew rapidly, reflecting the country’s industrialisation and urbanisation.
Overall, the gap between the two populations narrowed significantly by 2020.
