The line graph shows population trends in Viet Nam from 1960 to 2020. Overall, the urban population increased steadily, while the rural population experienced slower growth and eventually began to decline.

In 1960, most Vietnamese people lived in rural areas, and the rural population was significantly higher than the urban one. However, from 1960 to 1980, the rural population grew only slightly before leveling off. From 1990 onward, it started to decrease gradually as more people moved to cities.

By contrast, the urban population rose throughout the same period. In 1960, it was very small, but by 1980 it had increased noticeably. From 1990, urban growth accelerated sharply, continuing to climb until 2020. By the end of the period, the gap between rural and urban populations had narrowed considerably, reflecting Viet Nam’s rapid urbanisation.
