The line graph illustrates the trends in the proportions of urban and rural populations in Viet Nam from 1960 to 2020. Overall, while the rural population gradually decreased throughout the period, the percentage of people living in urban areas showed a steady and significant rise. This indicates a clear process of urbanisation over the six decades. In 1960, the majority of Vietnamese citizens lived in rural regions, making up as much as 85% of the population. This figure fell slightly to 81% in 1980 and continued to decline to 80% in 1990. Although the changes during these first thirty years were not dramatic, the downward trend became more noticeable after 1990. By 2010, the rural proportion had reduced to 70%, and it dropped further to only 63% in 2020. In contrast, the urban population followed an upward pattern. It started at a modest 15% in 1960, increased slowly to 19% in 1980, and reached 20% by 1990. From 1990 onward, the rate of growth accelerated more strongly, climbing to 30% in 2010 and reaching 37% by the year 2020. Overall, the graph clearly shows Viet Nam’s shift from a predominantly rural society to a more urbanized one over the 60-year period.
