In recent years, many young Vietnamese people have eagerly celebrated festivals such as Christmas and Halloween. This trend has raised mixed opinions: while some believe it brings joy and cultural diversity, others worry that it might erode our traditional identity. Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with celebrating these foreign festivals as long as we remain aware of preserving our own cultural values.
First, joining in Christmas or Halloween allows young people to enjoy a new and exciting atmosphere. For example, on Halloween, students dress up in creative costumes, which encourages imagination and teamwork through group activities or school events. Similarly, Christmas offers chances for families and friends to gather, decorate trees, and exchange gifts, creating warmth and happiness even for non-Christians. These experiences enrich social life and help young people become more open-minded.
Second, celebrating international festivals helps Vietnam connect with the global community. Many Vietnamese brands and shopping malls organize Christmas sales or Halloween promotions, boosting the economy and tourism. At the same time, our traditional festivals like Tet and Mid-Autumn are still widely celebrated, proving that foreign influences cannot easily replace them.
In conclusion, embracing global festivals can bring both joy and opportunities. The key is balance: Vietnamese youth should enjoy new cultural experiences while also cherishing and promoting their own traditions
