Opinion Essay

Nowadays, more and more young Vietnamese people celebrate festivals such as Christmas and Halloween. In my opinion, this trend has both positive and negative aspects, but the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

On the one hand, celebrating foreign festivals gives young people opportunities to learn about different cultures. By taking part in activities such as exchanging Christmas gifts or wearing Halloween costumes, they can broaden their knowledge and become more open-minded. These events also bring joy and excitement, helping people relax after stressful school and work. Moreover, international festivals can promote cultural diversity and make Vietnamese society more connected with the world.

On the other hand, some people are worried that foreign festivals may gradually replace traditional ones. If young people pay too much attention to Halloween or Christmas, they might forget important Vietnamese celebrations like Tet or Mid-Autumn Festival. This could weaken national identity and reduce appreciation for local traditions.

In conclusion, I believe that celebrating foreign festivals is not harmful as long as we also preserve our own culture. Young Vietnamese should enjoy international events but at the same time keep traditional values alive.
