Mount Everest is the highest mountain in the world. It is located on the border between Nepal and China in the Himalayas. The mountain is about 8,848 meters above sea level, making it the highest point on Earth. For local people, the mountain is sacred. It is called “Sagarmatha” in Nepalese and “Chomolungma” in Tibetan. About 3,000 people have successfully climbed to its summit. The first climbers to reach the top were Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal in 1953. The best time to visit Mount Everest is from April to early June and from September to November when the weather is better. Visitors can fly to Kathmandu, then travel to Lukla and hike about 14 days to Everest Base Camp.
