Mount Everest is the highest mountain on Earth, rising about 8,848 meters above sea level. It is located on the border between Nepal and China in the Himalayas. The mountain is very important to local people and is considered sacred. It is called “Sagarmatha” in Nepalese and “Chomolungma” in Tibetan. About 3,000 climbers have successfully reached its summit. The first climbers to reach the top were Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953. The best time to visit is from April to early June or from September to November. Visitors usually fly to Kathmandu, then travel to Lukla and hike about 14 days to Everest Base Camp.
