Mount Everest is the highest mountain on Earth, located on the border between Nepal and China in the Himalayas. It stands at 8,848 meters above sea level. The mountain is sacred to local people and is known as “Sagarmatha” in Nepalese and “Chomolungma” in Tibetan. About 3,000 climbers have reached its summit, including Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay in 1953. The best time to visit is from April to early June and September to November. Travelers usually fly to Kathmandu, then go to Lukla and hike for about 14 days to Everest Base Camp.
