The growing trend of young Vietnamese people celebrating festivals like Christmas and Halloween is, in my opinion, a positive aspect of globalization rather than a threat to our national identity. These celebrations are largely embraced for their entertainment value and as opportunities for socialising, not as a replacement for our own cultural practices. The younger generation sees these events as a fun way to connect with global trends and friends. It is a form of cultural exchange that broadens their perspectives. Moreover, the fear that these foreign festivities will overshadow our own is largely unfounded. Core Vietnamese traditions, such as Tết (Lunar New Year) and the Mid-Autumn Festival, remain deeply ingrained and are celebrated with far greater significance by families across the country. In conclusion, embracing new celebrations does not mean abandoning the old. It enriches our cultural landscape, demonstrating that Vietnamese society can be both modern and deeply respectful of its heritage.
