In recent years, more and more young Vietnamese people have shown great interest in festivals such as Christmas and Halloween. While some people are worried that these foreign celebrations may negatively affect Vietnamese traditions, I believe that embracing them is not only harmless but also beneficial.
First, celebrating foreign festivals allows young people to broaden their knowledge of other cultures. By joining in activities like trick-or-treating or decorating Christmas trees, they can learn about Western customs and values. This cultural exchange helps them become more open-minded and better prepared to live in an increasingly globalized world.
Second, these celebrations create opportunities for joy, creativity, and social connection. Halloween, for example, encourages young people to design costumes and share fun moments with friends. Likewise, Christmas brings warmth and togetherness, even for non-Christians. Such experiences contribute positively to their mental health and social life.
Of course, Vietnamese traditions should never be forgotten. The solution is not to reject foreign festivals, but to balance them with our own. In this way, young people can enjoy diversity while still preserving national identity.
