Walt Disney (Walter Elias Disney, 1901-1966) was a global icon—an American pioneer in animation, a producer, director, screenwriter, and voice actor. Born in Chicago, he displayed an early passion for art and drawing, a foundation for the creative empire he would later build.
Disney’s major breakthrough came in 1928 with the creation of Mickey Mouse, a character who quickly became one of the world's most recognizable symbols. In 1937, he released Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, the first full-length animated feature film, which proved the artistic and commercial viability of the medium.
Alongside his brother, Roy O. Disney, he co-founded Walt Disney Productions (now The Walt Disney Company). The company expanded far beyond animation into live-action films, television, and revolutionary theme parks like Disneyland, which opened its doors in 1955.
With 22 competitive Academy Awards, Walt Disney fundamentally shaped the modern entertainment industry. His legacy is not just the beloved characters he created, but a global media empire that continues to inspire millions through storytelling, innovation, and magic.
