Walt Disney is famous around the world for creating animated films and beloved characters such as Mickey Mouse. He was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois, and grew up in a large family. As a child he enjoyed drawing and took art classes; later he studied commercial art and worked as a cartoonist. He began his career in animation with the Laugh-O-Gram Studio and moved to Hollywood in the 1920s to start the Disney Brothers Studio with his brother Roy. Walt achieved remarkable success as a film-maker, producing the first synchronized sound cartoon, "Steamboat Willie," and creating the world-famous character Mickey Mouse. He went on to produce the first full-length animated feature, "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," and many other classics. Apart from films, Walt was famous for developing Disneyland, a revolutionary theme park that opened in 1955. Walt married Lillian Bounds in 1925; they had two daughters. He died in 1966, but his imagination and the company he founded have continued to grow. The Walt Disney Company remains a leading force in entertainment worldwide even today.
