The line graph illustrates the changes in the percentages of urban and rural populations in Viet Nam from 1960 to 2020.
Overall, what stands out from the graph is that the proportion of the rural population decreased steadily over the period, while the urban population showed a continuous upward trend.
In 1960, the majority of Vietnamese people lived in rural areas, accounting for 85% of the population, whereas only 15% lived in urban areas. From 1960 to 1980, the rural population fell slightly to 81%, and then continued to decline to 80% in 1990. This downward trend became more significant after 1990, reaching 70% in 2010 and 63% in 2020.
By contrast, the urban population increased gradually throughout the same period, rising from 15% in 1960 to 37% in 2020.
