Nowadays, the celebration of foreign festivals such as Christmas and Halloween has become increasingly popular among young Vietnamese people. While some view this as a harmless and fun way to embrace global trends, others are concerned about the potential erosion of traditional Vietnamese cultural values. In my opinion, this trend is largely positive, as long as it is balanced with a strong appreciation for our own heritage. The adoption of these festivals reflects a more open and integrated society, allowing young people to connect with international peers and enjoy diverse cultural experiences. These events often bring communities together and provide opportunities for entertainment and social interaction. Furthermore, celebrating foreign holidays does not necessarily mean abandoning Vietnamese traditions. For example, many young people who enjoy Halloween also actively participate in traditional festivals like Tết and Mid-Autumn Festival. The key is to maintain a balance. It is crucial for families and schools to continue educating the younger generation about the significance of our national customs and history. By doing so, we can ensure that while we embrace the world, we do not lose sight of our unique identity. Therefore, celebrating these festivals can be a sign of a vibrant, modern culture that is confident enough to both preserve its past and engage with the global present.
