In recent years, many young Vietnamese people have started celebrating festivals like Christmas and Halloween. While some worry that this trend may weaken traditional culture, I believe it can have positive effects if approached wisely.
First, celebrating foreign festivals helps young people become more open-minded and globally connected. These events are fun, creative, and bring people together, especially students who enjoy decorating, dressing up, and sharing gifts. Participating in such activities can also improve cultural understanding and language skills through exposure to English-speaking traditions.
However, it is important to remember and preserve Vietnam’s own festivals, such as Tet and the Mid-Autumn Festival. Young people should enjoy international celebrations without forgetting their national identity and cultural values. Schools and families can play a role by teaching the meaning of traditional festivals and encouraging participation in them.
In conclusion, celebrating foreign festivals is not harmful as long as young Vietnamese balance them with respect and love for their own culture. Cultural exchange should enrich, not replace, our traditions.
