Trong truyện " Hoàng tử bé" cây bao báp cho thấy những điều không tốt đẹp, xấu xa mà con người dễ mắc phải. Trên tiểu hành tinh B612 của Hoàng Tử bé thì những cây bao báp sẽ làm nứt vỡ hành tinh nếu không nhổ cỏ kịp thời. Hoàng Tử bé nhận ra việc chăm sóc cây cối và đặc biệt là việc nhổ cỏ từ khi là mầm non là một điều vô cùng quan trọng. Nếu để quá lâu mà không nhổ thì hành tinh sẽ nứt vỡ biểu thị cho đức tính xấu xa, suy nghĩ tiêu cực hay vấn đề đạo đức từ khi còn nhỏ.
