trên thực tế thì, nhiều khi trong câu trực tiếp với since, vì mệnh đề đằng sau đã chia ở thì QK rồi nên khi chuyển sang câu gián tiếp, vế since vẫn giữ nguyên ở thì QKĐ, còn thì ở mệnh đề HTHT chuyển thành QKHT, ví dụ với câu trên của em:

 

Mary wanted to know how long it had been since Bob left that city.

 

cách chuyển đổi này cũng đúng, và người nghe vẫn hoàn toàn hiểu được vấn đề, và cách này dường như là phổ biến hơn đối với người nước ngoài trong giao tiếp; so với cách tường thuật của bạn htfziang trên bài post nhé!

9. I'm afraid it's rained few times this summer, and the grass is turning brown and dying.

10. Many experts say you should fertilize your lawn in the fall.

11. It didn't seem to do my lawn much good.
