VIETNAM AND ASEAN: A JOURNEY OF INTEGRATION

Joining the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 1995 was a historic milestone for Vietnam. This event marked the beginning of a new era, which ended years of isolation and suspicion. Since then, (1) __________ and become a proactive member of this community.

1. UNICEF is a well-known international organization that works to help children around the world. In Vietnam, UNICEF has launched an important project to improve the lives of students in mountainous areas. One of their main goals is to bring clean water and better sanitation to schools in Ha Giang province. Before this project, many schools in this region did not have safe water for students to drink or use.

2. To solve this problem, UNICEF helps to construct modern washrooms and handwashing stations. These facilities are very important for the daily hygiene of the students. The organization also provides water filters to ensure that the drinking water is free from harmful bacteria. This physical support changes the appearance of the schools and makes them a safer place for everyone.

3. However, building facilities is not the only thing UNICEF does. They also focus on education. Teachers in these schools receive training on how to teach personal hygiene. They show the children how to wash their hands properly with soap. The students enjoy these practical lessons very much. They learn that washing hands can stop the spread of dangerous diseases.

4. The results of this project have been very positive. Because of the improved hygiene conditions, children get sick less often and go to school more frequently. In the past, many students had to stay at home due to stomach problems caused by dirty water. Now, the classrooms are full, and the students are happy and active.

5. In the future, UNICEF plans to expand this successful model to other remote provinces in Vietnam. They want to replace contaminated water sources in more schools. By doing this, they hope that every child in Vietnam will have a healthy environment to learn and grow. 1. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has started an important project in Vietnam to help small-scale farmers in rural areas. The main goal is to improve the lives of farmers, increase their income, and make farming stronger against climate change. This is very important because Vietnam's agriculture sector often suffers from severe weather and limited natural resources. [I]

2. The project introduces modern and eco-friendly farming methods. For example, some farmers are learning about “climate-smart agriculture.” This includes new techniques for growing rice that use less water and better fertilizers, which reduces pollution. By using less water and fewer expensive chemicals, farmers can cut down on their running costs significantly, leading to higher overall profits.
